Lust for life
In 1996, in het vredige dorpje Ruisbroek nabij Puurs organiseerde Gust Meeus een feestje. De aanleiding? 40 jaar Gust. Naam van het feest ? 'Lust for life'
In de late uurtjes werd een Duivels plan gesmeed : Waarom maken we hier geen jaarlijks feestje van? Gust Meeus, een echte, doorgewinterde blues fanaat had hier wel oren naar onder één voorwaarde : het mocht geen gewoon feestje worden, maar eentje met live blues concerten. Met die eerste concerten werden de eerste kiemen geplant van wat in de daaropvolgende jaren uitgroeide tot Duvelblues en de rest is geschiedenis : Heel wat internationaal bekende blues artiesten vonden, en vinden nog steeds hun weg naar het inmiddels gerenommeerde festival in Ruisbroek.
Naar het Park :
De eerste jaren vonden de concerten plaats in de lokalen van het lokale jeugdhuis Kabal. Vanwege de grote belangstelling werd het al vlug uitkijken naar een groter terrein. Met medewerking van onze wereldbekende brouwerij Duvel - Moortgat, het gemeentebestuur, Cultureel Centrum De Kollebloem, en het bestuur van jeugdhuis Kabal met daar ook nog een aantal sponsors uit de streek bij werd het "Duvelblues festival" voor de eerste keer in 2002 afgetrapt op de terreinen van de lokale Chrirobeweging alwaar een grote tent werd neergepoot en er een professionele PA werd bijgehaald. De eerste editie was een schot in de roos en meer dan 350 bezoekers zagen dat het goed was. Dit aantal bezoekers groeide jaar na jaar alsook het aantal bands en ook de kwaliteit van de bands groeide uit naar een internationaal niveau. In 2006, met een bezoekers aantal dat reeds meer dan verdubbeld was, grijpt Duvelblues de opportuniteit om te verhuizen naar een nieuwe lokatie in het historische park van Hof Van Coolhem. - Love for music, a lot of enthusiasm and an urge to combine perfect organization with the warmth of a family-friendly atmosphere. These are the ingredients that make Duvelblues one of the most appreciated events on the Belgian festival circuit. Of course combined with a freshly served Duvel!
Lust for life
In 1996, in the peaceful village of Ruisbroek near Puurs, Gust Meeus organized a party. The reason? 40 years Gust. Name of the party? 'Lust for life'
In the late hours a plan was forged: Why not make this an annual party? Gust Meeus, a real, seasoned blues fanatic, was interested in this subject on one condition: it could not be an ordinary party, but one with live blues concerts. With those first concerts, the first seeds were planted of what became Duvelblues in the following years and the rest is history: A lot of internationally known blues artists found, and still find, their way to the now renowned festival in Ruisbroek.
To the park :
In the first years the concerts took place in the premises of the local youth center Kabal. Due to the succes, it soon became necessary to look for a larger site. With the cooperation of our world-famous brewery Duvel - Moortgat, the municipal council, Cultural Center De Kollebloem, and the board of youth center Kabal, together with a number of sponsors from the region, the "Duvelblues festival" was kicked off for the first time in 2002 on the site of the local Chriro movement where a large tent was build and a professional PA was brought in. The first edition was a big hit and more than 350 visitors saw that it was good. This number of visitors grew year after year as well as the number of bands and also the quality of the bands grew to an international level. In 2006, with a number of visitors that had already more than doubled, Duvelblues seized the opportunity to move to a new location in the historic park of Hof Van Coolhem. - L'amour de la musique, beaucoup d'enthousiasme et l'envie d'allier une organisation parfaite à la chaleur d'une ambiance familiale. Ce sont les ingrédients qui font de Duvelblues l'un des événements les plus appréciés du circuit belge des festivals. Bien sûr combiné avec une Duvel fraîchement servie !

Dans les heures tardives, un plan du diable a été forgé : pourquoi ne pas en faire une fête annuelle ? Gust Meeus, un vrai mordu de blues aguerri, s'est intéressé à ce sujet à une condition : il ne pouvait s'agir d'une soirée ordinaire, mais d'une soirée avec des concerts de blues live. Avec ces premiers concerts, les premières graines ont été plantées de ce qui est devenu Duvelblues dans les années suivantes et le reste appartient à l'histoire : de nombreux artistes de blues de renommée internationale ont trouvé et trouvent toujours leur chemin vers le festival désormais renommé de Ruisbroek.
Au parc :
Les premières années, les concerts avaient lieu dans les locaux du centre de jeunesse local Kabal. En raison du grand intérêt, il est vite devenu nécessaire de chercher un site plus grand. Avec la coopération de notre brasserie de renommée mondiale Duvel - Moortgat, le conseil municipal, le centre culturel De Kollebloem et le conseil d'administration du centre de jeunesse Kabal, ainsi qu'un certain nombre de sponsors de la région, le "festival Duvelblues" a été lancé pour le première fois en 2002 sur les zones du mouvement local Chriro où une grande tente a été érigée et une sonorisation professionnelle a été amenée. La première édition était dans le mille et plus de 350 visiteurs ont vu que c'était bien. Ce nombre de visiteurs a augmenté d'année en année ainsi que le nombre de groupes et la qualité des groupes a atteint un niveau international. En 2006, avec un nombre de visiteurs qui avait déjà plus que doublé, Duvelblues a saisi l'opportunité de déménager dans un nouvel emplacement dans le parc historique de Hof Van Coolhem.
- Internationale top-artiesten op het podium :
De lokatie 'Hof Van Coolhem' was de stek van het Duvelblues festival van 2006 tot 2015. De VZW Duvel Blues werd opgericht en, ondertussen, waren grote namen die de revue passeerden het levende bewijs dat het festival zijn kinderjaren ontgroeid was. Jaar na jaar bracht Duvelblues meerdere internationale top blues artiesten naar Puurs: Nine Below Zero, Fabulous Thunderbirds, Tommy Castro Band, Rick Vito, Roomful of Blues, Kenny Neal….en vele anderen. In 2014 was er zelfs legende Johnny Winter die op Duvelblues één van zijn laatste concerten speelde. Deze blues legende was niet meer slechts een paar maanden later.
Duvelblues heeft dezer dagen een wijdverbreide bekendheid verworven bij, zowel muziekliefhebbers als bij de internationale artiesten community. Duvelblues staat voor één van de aangenaamste events op de blues festival kalender in Belgie. Doorheen de jaren veranderde de festival lokatieeen paar keer. In 2016 vond er een editie in Puurs in het JOC Wijland plaats en de laatste edities vinden terug plaats in Ruisbroek, waar het festival opnieuw dicht bij zijn roots zit : Jeughuis Kabal en de Chiro Jeugdvereniging die zelf ook beschikken over een nieuwe infrastructuur. De formule bleef echter doorheen de jaren intact : Electrische bands op het hoofdpodium, en meer intieme akoestische sets op het kleinere podium. De nieuwe lokatie bracht een aantal extras zoals de mogelijkheid voor bezoekers om dichtbij te camperen. Het aantal bezoekers nam nog toe en schommelt de laatste jaren tussen 1100 en 1500. Duvelblues is 'Alive and Kicking' en ook na de corona pandemie, en met de steun en medewerking van de sponsors, de pers, de lokale en Vlaamse overheid en uiteraard alle bezoekende muziekliefhebbers met een hart voor blues-roots-soul muziek kan Duvelblues een hoogstaand, internationaal programma blijven aanbieden en zijn reputatie alle eer aan blijven doen. - International top artists on stage :

In 2016, an edition was held in Puurs in the JOC Wijland and the last editions will take place in Ruisbroek, where the festival is once again close to its roots: Jeughuis Kabal and the Chiro Youth Association, which also have a new infrastructure at their disposal. However, the formula has remained intact over the years: Electric bands on the main stage, and more intimate acoustic sets on the smaller stage. The new location brought a number of extras such as the possibility for visitors to camp nearby. The number of visitors has increased and has fluctuated between 1100 and 1500 in recent years. Duvelblues is 'Alive and Kicking' and also after the corona pandemic, and with the support and cooperation of sponsors, the press, the local and Flemish government and of course all visiting music lovers with a heart for blues-roots-soul music, Duvelblues can continue to offer a high-quality, international program and continue to live up to its reputation. - Top artistes internationaux sur scène :

En 2016, une édition s'est tenue à Puurs dans le JOC Wijland et les dernières éditions auront lieu à Ruisbroek, là où le festival est à nouveau proche de ses racines : Jeughuis Kabal et l'Association des Jeunes Chiro, qui disposent également d'une nouvelle infrastructure à leur disposition. Cependant, la formule est restée intacte au fil des ans : des groupes électriques sur la scène principale et des sets acoustiques plus intimistes sur la petite scène. Le nouvel emplacement a apporté un certain nombre d'extras tels que la possibilité pour les visiteurs de camper à proximité. Le nombre de visiteurs a augmenté et a fluctué entre 1100 et 1500 ces dernières années. Duvelblues est "Alive and Kicking" et aussi après la pandémie corona, et avec le soutien et la coopération de sponsors, de la presse, du gouvernement local et flamand et de bien sûr tous les mélomanes de passage qui ont un cœur pour la musique blues-roots-soul, Duvelblues peut continuer à offrir une programmation internationale de haute qualité et continuer à être à la hauteur de sa réputation.
